November 2005« June 2004 | Main | December 2005 » Tuesday, November 29, 2005Ugh. I stayed a little later than usual to catch a meeting. Unfortunately the meeting was canceled just at the time it was supposed to start so I missed my regular train out for the night. That was a little on the frustrating side. Luckily I made it out before the rain really started. It's that time of year when rain plus leaves plus train leads to slippery rails and trains that have trouble stopping and starting. I think I blinked and November just about ended. Saturday, November 19, 2005Another week has come and gone in the blink of an eye. I made my usual rounds to the shops this morning to my lunch supplies for next week. I almost forgot it was going to be a short week (Thansgiving). I'm going to try a stir-fry recipe for dinner tonight so I bought myself some supplies for that. I'm pretty excited about giving this a try. One way to save time during the week is to cook ahead. So if I have some leftovers from my latest cooking adventure, I'll freeze them up into individual servings for nights when I don't have anything else to eat for dinner. Also, I prepared 2 days worth of snacking fruit (strawberries and grapes) so I have no excuse for eating junk this weekend. Friday, November 18, 2005Since the last Friday I wrote in, my day job started to allow jeans on Fridays. We had a change in top leadership and with it have come some changes, but not much that I see directly at my peon level. But the big thing was the relaxing of the jean policy to allow jeans (well maintained ones of course) on Fridays. Having grown up with Corporate America, the no jeans policy really didn't bother me. It's funny. I find myself having to think a little harder to a) not forget to wear jeans and b) look cute. We received an email today that next week is “jeans week” - jeans allowed every day. Ok, so it's a short week but it’s still a really cool gesture. I had better start thinking now about cute outfits to wear each day. Saturday, November 12, 2005After a long, unintentional sabbatical, I'm back and still working in the city. The last year (or so) has been crazy between completing my graduate degree, several family crises and of course my work schedule, I’m back and ready to share my experiences of working in a city. There was also a server crash in earlier this year that resulted in access problems. Things are back on track again and I’ll be adding a new tips section to share with you ideas that have helped me juggle long days and a huge to-do list. Stay tuned. |
